Adam was born and raised in Tallahassee, Fl. He attended the University of Florida and Florida A&M University where he earned a bachelor’s in Construction Management. Adam has been a Certified Residential Contractor since 2015. He transitioned to commercial construction in 2018 and has worked on student housing projects for FSU, Capital Regional Medical Center, and Franklin County Schools.

Adam has a wife, Emily, and three children. He enjoys camping with his family and supporting his kids in their various extracurricular activities.

Austin joined the Mad Dog team in late 2021.  Born and raised in Tallahassee he grew up in the construction industry learning to build homes and churches with his father.  Austin continued in construction through college while earning his Associate’s degree, upon completion of school he worked in construction management as a Superintendent erecting custom homes and completing residential renovations in the general Tallahassee area.  In his most recent position prior to joining Mad Dog, Austin worked as a Project Consultant for the State of Florida overseeing various construction projects for the state prison system.  When not at work, you’ll find Austin outdoors fishing, hunting, golfing, and playing or listening to live music.

Prior to joining Mad Dog Construction, Ben earned his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and a master’s degree from Reformed Theological Seminary. He has been a part of the Tallahassee community for over 30 years and is an active member of Four Oaks Community Church. Ben is married to Kelly Todd and they have four children. Prior to joining Mad Dog Construction, Ben worked on various high-end residential projects and several commercial projects within the Tallahassee community. He joined Mad Dog Construction in 2018 and has worked on projects at Summit East, Florida State University, and Driftwood Inn.

Curtis graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. in Accounting in 1981. After graduation, he opened a business, Curtis Whigham Cabinetry, Inc., providing custom cabinetry to residential and commercial customers. Curtis then went to work for Albritton Williams as a Project Manager and in 2000 joined the Mad Dog Construction team as Senior Project Manager.

Curtis has managed a multitude of projects ranging from educational facilities, multi-family apartment complexes, student housing, surgical suites, commercial office spaces, laboratories, residential homes, and various renovations. The scope of this work represents over 1,000,000 square feet of finished projects with over $100 million in construction value. Curtis has a keen focus on construction costs and attention to detail along with valuable strengths in negotiations.

Community Service

Curtis was appointed to the Leon County Code Enforcement Board in 2008 and became Chairman of the Board in 2009.

When Debbie joined Mad Dog Construction in 2013, she brought over 15 years of experience as a Project Coordinator which included work on educational facilities in Leon County and beyond, in addition to commercial, healthcare, and retail projects. Debbie has worked on numerous Florida State University projects during her time as Project Coordinator at Mad Dog Construction and during previous employment. Working closely with our Project Managers, Debbie interacts with all project team members throughout the construction process.

Keith has been an asset to Mad Dog Construction for over 15 years. His ability to fill in and take command over certain aspects of a project makes him invaluable to our delivery. He works tremendously hard and is great at leading labor efforts as well as supervising small projects.

After completing her double BS in Psychology and Communications for Business and MS in Interior Design from Florida State University, Kelly Simmons joined Mad Dog Construction in 1985. For 10 years, Kelly was the Design Director designing custom homes and serving as Project Manager on over 200 residential projects. She also created and headed up a renovations division at Mad Dog in the early ’90s. In 1993, she began to manage the administrative end of the company and became a partner and Senior Vice President in 1995. Kelly is currently Co-owner and Chief Community Officer of Mad Dog Construction.

Kelly has extensive experience with client interactions in the design and production of residential construction projects and over twenty years of experience managing Mad Dog Construction’s administrative functions. Kelly purchased and renovated a 1960’s building into a LEED gold-certified property called Urbangreen as a learning lab in green construction methods for the Mad Dog team. This was done to allow Mad Dog to have first-hand, local experience in the most current sustainable building methods. Kelly is committed to giving back to the community and has been involved with many local nonprofits and community efforts during her time at Mad Dog Construction.

Awards and Recognitions

Kelly Simmons Dozier was honored in 2010 as one of the 25 Women You Need to Know and the Oasis Center for Women and Girls Trailblazer. In 2008 Kelly received the Tallahassee Democrat’s Volunteer of the Year Award in the Arts for her work supporting the arts and her other volunteer efforts for the community. In 2008 Kelly was also awarded the President’s Call to Service Award for outstanding volunteer efforts by President George Bush. Kelly was most recently a Leader of the Year finalist in Leadership Tallahassee’s awards.

Laurie Dozier is a 1972 graduate of Florida State University’s College of Arts and Sciences.

Six months after graduation, Laurie joined with many other future neighbors in founding what would become an award-winning intentional community, the Miccosukee Land Cooperative. In addition to participating in the creation of the covenants and restrictions, laying out the roads and the lots, monitoring power line installations, and creating a Town Council, Laurie designed and built his home, which he occupied seven months ahead of electricity being available to the Co-Op.

Incorporated in 1977, Mad Dog’s initial focus was designing and building well-crafted, energy-efficient homes in Mad Dog’s environmentally sensitive developments. (Mad Dog was the nickname given to M&D Construction a few years earlier by the director of the Leon County Building Department.) By the early 1990s, the firm had evolved into construction management. focusing on office, retail, multi-family, and health care.

Prior to the great recession, Mad Dog’s client list was exclusively private sector and as a result, Mad Dog’s work opportunities plummeted. Recognizing the significant value of Mad Dog’s brand, staff, facilities, and culture, the company was held together while laying the groundwork for successfully expanding into the public sector.

As Mad Dog has garnered significant recognition for its quality work product, it’s a business environment, and its community leadership, so has Mad Dog appreciated the confidence of the not-for-profit community and proudly notes a clientele that includes the Children’s Home Society, YMCA, Refuge House, DISC Village, United Way, West Gate (adult male housing), Renaissance Center (resources for the homeless), Jean McCully Family House (at Big Bend Hospice) and the Kearney Center (a facility for comprehensive emergency services).

Laurie served as the Mustian Center Project Executive, a $260,000,000 surgical and ICU addition to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Laurie has served on numerous community boards and currently serves on the Board of Whole Child Leon and the Leadership Council of FSU’s School of Arts and Sciences.

Prior to joining Mad Dog Construction, Les worked directly for Shawn Roberts at TeamSouth Construction as a Superintendent from 2006 to 2010. When Shawn closed TeamSouth to align his business with Mad Dog, he recruited Les to join Mad Dog as well. Before TeamSouth, Les operated his own company, Parks Construction Company, from 1999 to 2006. Les also worked as Superintendent building motels between 1995 and 1999 and as a drywall contractor from 1986 to 1995. Les has extensive construction experience and has worked on many types of projects including commercial office space, hospitality, retail, and residential.

When Lilly joined Mad Dog Construction she brought over 16 years of Accounting experience with her. She started her career by studying Accounting at Lake City Community College and then went on to work at a local non-profit agency in Live Oak, FL for 8 years. She then relocated to the Liberty County area where she worked 8 years at a bio-mass power plant and did part-time Bookkeeping for a local Ace Hardware store, assisted living facility, and a General Contractor. While working for the General Contractor, she realized her true passion in the construction business and joined the Mad Dog team in 2004.

Lilly was promoted from Bookkeeper to Controller in 2019 and her responsibilities include all aspects of job costing, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial statement preparation, and analysis. Lilly is also the Human Resource Benefits Administrator.

Mack Seay, a licensed general contractor since 2015, was born and raised in Tallahassee. After graduating from Florida State University, Mack and his wife, Kira, moved to Tennessee where he built custom homes and oversaw numerous commercial projects in Nashville. After they had their first daughter they decided to move back to Tallahassee to be closer to family. Mack has a house full of girls with his wife and two daughters. When he’s not with them he is with his labrador retriever, Timber, chasing ducks throughout Arkansas in the winter or on a boat the rest of the year “catching”, not “fishing”, as he likes to call it.

Meredeth, a native of Crawfordville, Florida joined Mad Dog in June of 2021.  She found her passion for the construction industry in 2015 after several years in private sector customer service and administrative operations with the State of Florida, Department of Health.  She then fell into the position of Office Manager, shortly after being promoted to Project Manager & Selections Coordinator for a smaller local construction firm that specialized in large renovations, additions, custom home building, and historical restorations.  While working for this firm, Meredeth gained over five years of experience in a wide range of skill sets including HR, site supervision, project scheduling, subcontractor and vendor management, safety coordination, procurement, estimating, marketing, and business development.

Mike Bozone joined Mad Dog Construction in 2019 and brings with him 20 years of experience in the construction industry. He earned his Florida Certified General Contractors License in 2012.

Mike started in the field as a carpenter and later earned a certificate in CAD drafting.  He then worked as a draftsman for a premier Tallahassee architecture firm that specialized in multi-million dollar custom homes, condo projects, and restaurants while putting himself through college. With the desire to further his education and career, he moved to South Florida in 2001 and went to work for a post-tension design and supply company as a draftsman and project coordinator. He quickly learned the high-rise structural concrete industry and earned a PTI certification and learned the trade of identifying structural issues and repairing high-rise structures.

Mike was recruited by a general contractor in 2005 to act as Superintendent building complex high rises in Miami and Dallas. He later moved on to build restaurants ranging from tenant finish-out restaurants to ground-up fast food and high-end restaurants throughout Dallas and Ft. Worth from 2014-2018.

Experience & Education

Mike began his employment with Mad Dog an Assistant Superintendent for the expansion and remodeling of New Leaf Market and assumed full responsibilities as the Superintendent for the second half of the project, earning recognition from the Owner as a valuable asset to the project.  Mike has since been the Superintendent for Mad Dog’s first LEED project, URBANgreen, in addition to numerous other projects including educational facilities, commercial office spaces, hospitality, retail, and residential projects. He is now the lead on multiple projects as Project Manager.

Mike’s Project Manager responsibilities include ensuring adherence to project schedules and budgets, scheduling work with subcontractors, scheduling delivery of materials, ensuring project safety, preparing daily job reports, maintaining as-built drawings, ensuring quality, coordinating inspections with the building department, preparing punch lists, and general oversight of all job site activities.

Rob joined Mad Dog in March of 2022.  Born and raised in South Texas, Rob grew up in and around his grandfather and father’s general construction company where he worked throughout high school during the summer.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in North Texas and then continued working at his family construction company for the next five years prior to moving to Tallahassee.  Rob is detail-focused and enjoys working with a team to deliver projects that exceed client expectations.  He enjoys the hands-on and fluid day-to-day nature of construction and works hard to ensure that projects are delivered in a safe and timely manner.

Prior to joining Mad Dog Construction, Scott worked as a Superintendent for a Construction Manager on Florida State University’s campus as well as on other projects in the local area. Scott came highly recommended to Mad Dog and has become an excellent addition to our team. He has a unique ability to communicate with field trades and gains their respect quickly. His attention to detail and specs is excellent. His knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems was gained during his time spent as a designer for an MEP firm and as an Architect’s site representative on large projects.

Scott began his employment with Mad Dog Construction as an Assistant Superintendent and quickly progressed through the ranks to Project Manager. Before joining Mad Dog, Scott earned a B.S. in Management Information Systems from Florida State University and spent 6 years in the Information Technology industry in Tampa, Florida. He left a career with Raymond James in St. Petersburg, Florida to join the family business in Tallahassee in 2003.

Scott has experience on many types of construction projects including educational facilities, commercial office space, retail, high-end custom homes, single-family residences, and hospitality projects. Throughout Scott’s career, he has consistently proven to be an indispensable asset in every role he holds.

Scott’s Project Management responsibilities include solicitation of bids, subcontractor selection, contract preparation and administration, site personnel management, material acquisition, cost control, quality control, document management, conflict resolution, submittals, pay requests, Owner/Architect meetings, and general oversight of project activities.

Shawn is a graduate of Auburn University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Sciences. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps and is an Honorably Discharged Captain of the United States Air Force.

Prior to joining Mad Dog Construction, Shawn served as President of TeamSouth Construction’s North Division in Tallahassee, where he led numerous projects in Florida and Georgia and he directed a regional office in Jacksonville, FL responsible for all aspects of operations, finances, and marketing in 12 counties.

Shawn has led the construction and oversight of many University and K-12 projects in North Florida and South Georgia as well as numerous other commercial projects including offices, retail, industrial, clubhouse/resort, and financial institutions throughout Florida and Georgia. These projects represent over 1,500,000 square feet, 250 plus projects and over $200 million in construction, and over $150 million in preconstruction, development planning, and estimating services.

He currently serves as the President, CEO of Mad Dog Construction.

When Sondra joined Mad Dog Construction in 2021, she brought over 20 years of experience in the construction industry. Sondra has worked on many types of projects including educational facilities in Leon County as well as Florida State University. Sondra has also worked on projects with the State of Florida Department of Management Services throughout her career as well as commercial, healthcare, retail, and condominium projects. Working closely with our Project Managers, Sondra interacts with all project team members throughout the construction process.

Stephen joined Mad Dog in 2018 bringing with him multiple years of accounting experience. Stephen has worked within several industries including construction and real estate. He is a graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration.
